Joy to the world the Lord has come.
In Luke 2: 25 Simeon who was a man who was righteous and devout cautiously and carefully observing the divine Law, and looking for the Consolation of Israel and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
And it had been divinely revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
This is an awesome story of Joy that filled Simeon and others when at last the expected Messiah Jesus Christ had come.
Let us look at what Luke 2:25-39tell us:
Note: All Jewish baby boys were brought to the priest and dedicated to God as babies. Simeon is the priest who dedicated Jesus. He had a promise from God that he would not die before he saw the Messiah; the Savior Israel was waiting for; the Seed that would bruise the devilýs head as promised in Genesis 3:15. The Messiahýs name is Jesus Christ. Christ means Anointed One or Messiah
Luke 2:25-39 (Amplified Bible)
25Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout [cautiously and carefully observing the divine Law], and looking for the Consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
26And it had been divinely revealed (communicated) to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
27And prompted by the [Holy] Spirit, he came into the temple [[a]enclosure]; and when the parents brought in the little child Jesus to do for Him what was customary according to the Law,
28[Simeon] took Him up in his arms and praised and thanked God and said,
29And now, Lord, You are releasing Your servant to depart (leave this world) in peace, according to Your word.
30For with my [own] eyes I have seen Your Salvation,(A)
31Which You have ordained and prepared before (in the presence of) all peoples,
32A Light for [b]revelation to the Gentiles [to disclose what was before unknown] and [to bring] praise and honor and glory to Your people Israel.(B)
33And His [legal] father and [His] mother were marveling at what was said about Him.
34And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, Behold, this Child is appointed and destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against--(C)
35And a sword will pierce through your own soul also--that the secret thoughts and purposes of many hearts may be brought out and disclosed.
36And there was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old, having lived with her husband seven years from her maidenhood,(D)
37And as a widow even for eighty-four years. She did not go out from the temple [c]enclosure, but was worshiping night and day with fasting and prayer.
38And she too came up at that same hour, and she returned thanks to God and talked of [Jesus] to all who were looking for the redemption (deliverance) of Jerusalem.
39And when they had done everything according to the Law of the Lord, they went back into Galilee to their own town, Nazareth.
Next let us look at Isaiah 53:1-12 on prophesy that Simeon knew about and now saw come to pass that brought him great JOY just as it does for us today who know Jesus Christ as our Savior.
Every Christmas our Joy is renewed as we again see the manger scenes with the baby Jesus of how God's Word was fulfilled so long ago to BRING JOY TO THE WORLD.
As we read God's Word Isaiah 53: 1-12 thankfulness will fill your soul and spirit just as it has mine.
Isaiah 53:1-12 (Amplified Bible)
1WHO HAS believed (trusted in, relied upon, and clung to) our message [of that which was revealed to us]? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been disclosed?(A)
2For [the Servant of God] grew up before Him like a tender plant, and like a root out of dry ground; He has no form or comeliness [royal, kingly pomp], that we should look at Him, and no beauty that we should desire Him.
3He was despised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains, and acquainted with grief and sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or have any esteem for Him.
4Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy].(B)
5But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.
6All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has made to light upon Him the guilt and iniquity of us all.(C)
7He was oppressed, [yet when] He was afflicted, He was submissive and opened not His mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth.
8By oppression and judgment He was taken away; and as for His generation, who among them considered that He was cut off out of the land of the living [stricken to His death] for the transgression of my [Isaiah's] people, to whom the stroke was due?
9And they assigned Him a grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in His death, although He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth.(D)
10Yet it was the will of the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief and made Him sick. When You and He make His life an offering for sin [and He has risen from the dead, in time to come], He shall see His [spiritual] offspring, He shall prolong His days, and the will and pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.
11He shall see [the fruit] of the travail of His soul and be satisfied; by His knowledge of Himself [which He possesses and imparts to others] shall My [uncompromisingly] righteous One, My Servant, justify many and make many righteous (upright and in right standing with God), for He shall bear their iniquities and their guilt [with the consequences, says the Lord].
12Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great [kings and rulers], and He shall divide the spoil with the mighty, because He poured out His life unto death, and [He let Himself] be regarded as a criminal and be numbered with the transgressors; yet He bore [and took away] the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors (the rebellious).(E)
Revelation 11:15 AMP - The seventh angel then blew [his] trumpet, and there were mighty voices in heaven, shouting, The dominion (kingdom, sovereignty, rule) of the world has now come into the possession and become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ (the Messiah), and He shall reign forever and ever (for the eternities of the eternities)!
